About Us
We are a young winemaker family, wishing to preserve our tradition. Our knowledge and vision are focused on producing wines that reflect their variety, fullness and harmony as well as tradition and teritory. This is what gives the wine a special place in tourism and gastronomy.
The name MonteMoro originates from our main vineyard, located on the Šalarski hill near Koper and named Morova kortina or Cortina di Moro. This is where the Moro family property once was and now we have restored their vineyards and olive tree plantations. We devoted our attention especially to the Refošk variety that reigns on this hill. Refošk is known as the king of black wines because of its intense ruby color. That is why Istrian people perceive it as a black wine and »moro« for them means dark or black. All this is what makes out the MonteMoro brand.
Our vineyards cover seven hectares at the moment. A lot of attention is payed to our vines as we try to cultivate them in an enviroment friendly way. Smaller burdens of grapes and a steady growth allow the vines to bear healthy, ripe grapes from which top-level wines can be produced. In the cellar, we combine the traditions of our grandfathers with modern knowledge in order to keep the whole potential of the grapes and enable a natural maturing process. This way our wines can manifest their entire richness.
